Uplay holiday cottage in the new forest yesterday received a strong 3 star rating from the English Tourism Council inspector (aka 'VisitBritain', VisitEngland', 'VisitEngland.net', English Tourist Board' - I can't keep up with it....).
Obviously we're very pleased and a big thank you goes to the local new forest decorators from F J Lockley Ltd who have done a lovely job.

Snow in the New Forest!
Okay, so it wasn't that much snow. It was a couple of flakes. By the time I'd looked out of the window the skies were blue - sounds like a "Michael Fish" forecast to me.....
It is 2 degrees Centigrade here though, so maybe they'll surprise us with snow today - the picture of the cottage wasn't taken today - rumbled - it was a couple of years back when we had snow sometime around Christmas...maybe, just maybe....

Hampshire Holiday Cottages Christmas Are Going...
Hampshire Holiday Cottages Christmas 2007 Are Going...Going...
Hitting the New Year running, we've already sold 3 of our Christmas and New Year breaks for the festive season 2007. Crimbo seemed to go well this year with positive feedback from guests - the locally handmade, decorative holly wreaths and candle table decorations were well received and I think we'll keep doing this in future, a really nice, traditional touch that seems to be appreciated. And they all came from 'renewable locally sourced timber'! The lady who produces them grows her own holly!

Holiday Cotage Waste Policy
We've now finalised our arrangements for waste at our larger cottages - SITA have been contracted to provide 1100 litre bins for refuse, with detailed information being provided in information packs at the cottages for our guests on waste/refuse removal, days for collection, extra charges for excess refuse etc.
Storms in the New Forest
I'd like to be able to say it's still sunny here, but no, not since yesterday, when we had dazzling blue skies most of the afternoon. Now, we've got a real howler on the go!

Waste Policy Review - Discussion Continued
Further to our decision to review our waste policy, we have started a discussion on this thread to garner information from other holiday accommodation providers and explore the options available to us - hopefully this will prove useful information for any of those out there who run holiday accommodation and have come across the same problem.
To see the discussion go to http://www.laymyhat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=25406#25406 - and feel free to comment if you have an opinion.

New Forest Holiday Cottage in Lyndhurst sleeps 20.
We already have a new forest holiday cottage in Lyndhurst which sleeps 12. This is part of a large converted Victorian Stable Block, only half of which is currently in use. Work will start after the summer season on converting the rest of the property so that by summer 2006, it will accommodate 20 to 24 guests (exact number to be confirmed). To sleep 20 guests will obviously require some significant work, so I will post closer to the time.

New Forest Holiday Cottages - Free Postcards
Halcyon New Forest Holiday Cottages Now Offering Free Postcards to Download and Print.
Each postcard we offer is tailored to an individual holiday cottage which we run in the New Forest area. The postcards are free to download and print to anyone who wishes.
These postcards are normally provided to our guests while staying with us, as part of a welcome pack left on guests' arrival.
Our free new forest holiday cottage postcards can be used by anyone else as a resource for their website, as long as credit is given to Halcyon New Forest Holiday Cottages and a text link is provided back to www.halcyonholidaycottages.co.uk with "Halcyon New Forest Holiday Cottages" used as the anchor text. Go to New Forest Holiday Cottage Postcards to view available postcards.
The postcards are produced in Microsoft Word, and we have found it best to print them on 160gsm card - any lighter and the ink on our inkjet printer tends to bleed through the card, also, the cards tend to warp with heavy ink on one side and not the other.

In the very near future now, hopefully in time for the main summer season, we will be announcing a new holiday cottage available for rent - this addition to our existing new forest holiday cottages will be near Highcliff on the Dorset coast, on the edge of the New Forest. As things stand, it will sleep 6/8 people in a quiet road - details will be posted as soon as I know more.

New Forest Holiday Cottages in Lymington, Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst.
New Forest Holiday Cottages in Lymington, Wheathill.
With some fine weather over this weekend in the New Forest, and a large party in Wheathill holiday cottage in Lymington (which sleeps 12) this house has been well used. The sun is shining, the weather is sweet and spring looks to be settling in.

New Forest Holiday Cottages
Holiday Cottages in the New Forest
Our New Forest Holiday Cottages have now been open and let to guests for over two years. From one holiday cottage in Lymington we have expanded up to seven cottages. Periodically one or the other will be out of service for maintenance, so availability is updated daily on our website for each cottage. The self catering accommodation in the New Forest can sleep 12 people comfortably.
Hundreds of guests have now stayed at our cottages and we have some nice feedback from our guests. Scroll down the page for this New Forest Holiday Cottage to see some guest comments on the left hand side. People seem to love coming to stay in the area.
At the moment there is one cottage which will not be available after April. This will be having major work undertaken, so will be completely out of action. We are sure to have a replacement up and running by that time though, so we will have plenty of capacity to cope with summer bookings!
Over and out,
Darren.

Holiday Cottage Booking Tips
Tips on booking a New Forest Holiday Cottage.
We have just created a new page to add to our site! The page itself deals with points which will help people who are searching for holiday cottages. Our particular holiday cottages are in the New Forest, though these tips on booking a holiday cottage will no doubt apply to anyone looking for holiday cottage rentals, not just those exclusively in the New Forest.
Our tips page includes advice on selecting an appropriate cottage from the selection available. Click here, or follow the link above.
If you see anything you want to comment on, or have any ideas which might improve our tips page, please email me at darren@halcyonholidaycottages.co.uk and I'll get back to you. I'll be looking to expand on the information available as time goes on, so comments and feedback would be great.
